The primary objective of the library is to implement, enrich, and support the educational programs of Kirinyaga University. The Library is the backbone of learning, teaching research, innovation and development activities of the University in line with the vision, mission and core values of the University. The use of library resources is vital for pursuing study and research. It is an integral part of the University and designed to meet the information, research, and curriculum needs of its students, faculty and staff members. It has comprehensive collections to meet the needs of its users. The library's holdings include a diverse collection of print, non-print, and computer resources for all to use.

The University Library commits to provide relevant, varied, unique and high quality collection (print and non-print) tailored to suit the users’ needs.  In today's knowledge-based society, we shall rely on knowing information needs of users’ to enable the University Library provide relevant and up to date information.
The Library aims to provides extensive research and instructional support to users through provision of current awareness and scholarship monitoring, ICT, online guides, information retrieval skills, and research assistant training with emphasis on information access and searching, critical evaluation of resources on the web, and the use of citation management tools.
